Today we did some highly accurate and engaging scientific research. Can a 4 year old build a 4+ LEGO set all by themselves? The victim set: LEGO Friends 42675 Unicorn Cake Delivery Car.
This is just a basic, 67 piece set that is quick to build and gives the kid something to play with when they're done. The final build is fairly robust, and if the kid likes unicorns, this is a no brainer. It comes in a standard box.

What you get in the box
This is a 2026 LEGO Friends set aimed at the preschool crowd, so it's simple by design. And it comes with the standard contents.

There are actually two minifigures in this set, though we forgot to include the second one in the shot. We were busy wrangling children. For the record, they're LEGO Friends minidolls — Paisley and Leo — and the set throws in a little birthday cake, a present, a balloon, and a donut for the delivery role-play.

We always include our ProsCons chart, but we aren't sure it is needed for this one. This set targets young children. If you're going to buy this one, you're going to buy this one. You know what I mean?
Pros
- Easy enough for a 4 year old
- Cheap
Cons
- Cheap
Can a 4-year-old build a 4+ set?
After some highly detailed testing and analysis, we found that a four year old can... sort of build the set by themselves. We had to intervene a couple times to reorient pieces, assist with skipped instruction pages, and help put the tires on. But overall, they did a great job — we estimate they did 90% of it themselves, finishing in 27 minutes and 44 seconds.
We do like how these sets for young kids are more explicit in the pieces needed for each step. They literally show a hand holding the pieces needed for the step, which is a big part of why a preschooler can mostly go it alone.

The finished car
Once it's done you've got a sturdy little unicorn car that holds up to real play — exactly what you want from a set handed to a 4-year-old.

Is the LEGO Unicorn Cake Delivery Car worth it?
For $6.99, it's an easy yes as a party favor, small gift, or a first "build it yourself" win for a preschooler. It's cheap, it's quick, and the finished car is durable enough to actually get played with.
