Up for review today is the LEGO Off-Road Mountain Truck (set 60447). This is a newer addition to the LEGO City theme.

It's one of what I call the "good for a birthday present for a kid in your child's class" sets. Not too expensive, but not some random piece of junk.

What you get in the box

It has 221 pieces, so it's quick to put together. It even has a winch, a hood that goes up, some storage space in the back, plus two crates. There's some decent functionality here for a $19.99 LEGO set. It's an easy purchase.

A closer look at the build and functions

For such a small set, there's a surprising amount going on here. The winch on the front isn't just for show — you can actually unspool the string and reel it back in, and it's strong enough to "pull" the truck, which is a nice touch for play. The hood is one of my favorite parts. It uses a new bonnet piece, and there's a clever little mechanism where pushing down on the snorkel pops the hood open from underneath. Simple, but satisfying.

The roof comes off too, so you can get at the interior. There's actually room for two minifigures side by side in the cab, a printed dashboard and steering wheel, and the back has storage space for the two crates. Those crates are worth pointing out — they show up here in dark bluish grey, a color they hadn't appeared in before, so collectors hunting for specific elements may want to take note.

The sand green and black color scheme with reddish orange accents gives it a rugged, boxy look that reminds a lot of people of a classic Land Rover Defender. It's a 6-wide vehicle aimed at ages 6 and up, so it sits right in that easy, pick-up-and-play LEGO City sweet spot.

Cons

  • Mountains and trees are stickers, not prints

Minifigure and accessories

You get one minifigure — an explorer with a dark tan jacket and a GPS device, plus a printed map tile that shows a route up into the mountains. Some folks wished for a second figure or even a small animal like a mountain goat given the name, and honestly that would've added something. Still, the accessory count is generous for the price: a wrench, a printed compass, a torch, a medical box, and even a banana and water bottle. Plenty for kids to set up little outdoor adventures.

One small gripe worth mentioning for anyone on the fence — the decorative mountains and trees are stickers rather than printed pieces. It's not a dealbreaker at this price, but a few of the other recent City sets have leaned into printed parts, so it stands out a little here.

Is the LEGO 60447 Off-Road Mountain Truck worth it?

At $19.99 for 221 pieces, the Off-Road Mountain Truck is an easy yes if you want a quick, fun LEGO City build that looks great on a shelf or in an outdoor scene. It builds fast, packs in more functionality than you'd expect at this price, and works perfectly as that "good for a birthday present" set I mentioned up top.
